Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the egg and peppermint extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually add it to the wet mixture.
  5. Divide dough in half; add red food coloring to one half and mix well.
  6. Roll each half into ropes, then twist them together and form into a candy cane shape.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. Let them cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, increase the peppermint extract slightly.
