Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the orange juice, sour cream, and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For the frosting, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gradually add the powdered sugar and orange zest until smooth.
  11. Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.
  12. Decorate with additional orange zest if desired, and serve.
